Evening Family Counseling Clinic
Located at the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School at 270 Columbia Road in Dorchester, the Connecting With Care clinicians from each of our partner schools come together to provide mental health services to children and their families. Services are available to students of the Frederick and Irving Middle Schools, and the Mather and Holland elementary schools, and Young Achievers Science and Mathematics K-8 School.
The Evening Family Clinic will be open every Thursday evening from 4-8pm, except during school vacation weeks. The purpose of the clinic is to recognize that family engagement in helping their children cope with emotional and behavioral challenges is key to lasting positive outcomes. It can be very difficult for working parents to participate in their child's treatment when sessions are scheduled during daytime hours. The result is often high cancellation/no show rates and premature termination of treatment. CWC wants to remove as many obstacles to family particpation in treatment as possible. The evening clinic can provide on-site childcare and assist with transportatio, if needed.
Services include comprehensive diagnostic assessments. individual and family therapy, and parent consultations. We treat problems common to children such as depression, anxiety, behavioral issues, adjustment problems, bereavement and loss, ADHD, and trauma. Trauma treatment is a particular specialty, and we utilize a treatment model developed for children and families by doctors at Children’s Hospital. Services are provided by licensed master’s level, mental health clinicians who are employed by our three partner agencies: the Home for Little Wanderers, Family Service of Greater Boston, and Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC). We have independently licensed clinicians available, so most insurances are accepted, and free care can be arranged.
